A delightful night with Wasim Akram

It was one of life’s great privileges to have watched Wasim Akram in full-throttle, advancing from 17 paces, over or around the wicket and making even the oldest ball talk.

To hear him speak at our Christmas with Wasim function was a joy and one of our most distinguished Australian Cricket Society members Don McQueen summed it up beautifully when he rose and thanked Wasim, saying it was one of the best cricket addresses he’d ever heard.

wasimakramsignedSelected as an unknown on the advice of Javed Miandad and mentored by the great Imran Khan, Wasim, for us, shares the new ball in any Hall of Fame combination.

He dazzled us all here in Melbourne from his first time at the G back in ’85, bouncing Kim Hughes out and running through the much-vaunted Aussie top-order, including AB, like they were schoolboys.

What a career: almost 1000 international wickets, more than 450 games — a third of those as captain —winning titles at Lord’s and World Cups including the epic winning final against the Poms here in Melbourne….

He was most gracious and generous guest of honour, our function at Kooyong being enjoyed by almost 100.

Our thanks to our event sponsors Westminister Lawyers for their valuable contributions again.

We have signed menus from the event (signed by Wasim) at $5 each. Just email me if you would like one… KP
