Ponting campaigns to outlaw Big Bats

Ricky Ponting is leading the charge to have the new-age big bats banned from Test cricket.

Ponting believes batting has become easier with the improved bat-making technology, unduly increasing the imbalance between bat and ball.

He says the wide-edged bats have their place in white ball cricket, with its accent on entertainment, but should be outlawed from Tests.

2016 Ponting menusignHe is taking his concerns to the International Cricket Council’s laws committee this month.

Australian opener David Warner’s ‘Kaboom’ bat from Gray-Nicolls has a 6cm edge which allowed even miss-hits to clear the fence.

The increased power players are generating from the bigger bats has seen umpires wear protective helmets and forearm guards to shield them from return hits.

Ponting was speaking as the guest of honor at the Australian Cricket Society’s 49th annual dinner.
