  1. Ken Piesse

In his foreword, Ricky Ponting writes: ‘Cricket people are good people – and they all have a story to tell, as I found out flicking through some of the early manuscript pages for Favourite Cricket Yarns, Ken Piesse’s latest book. In between being president of the Australian Cricket Society and captain of the Kingston Saints third XI mentoring and encouraging the young ones, Ken lives, eats and breathes cricket like few I know.
‘Most of you are likely to have at least one of Ken’s books in your libraries. This is his 49th cricket book and his 68th overall on cricket and football. That’s a fair innings.
‘There’s a lovely blend of characters flowing through the pages of this one, from the current ones to the oldies but goodies.
‘I liked David Lloyd’s pun at Lord’s when he was worried about the pressbox lift stopping again. Ken was among three others sharing the lift and told ‘Bumble’ that they’d all be able to make good conversation if there was another stoppage, ‘Ken,’ said Lloyd, ‘you’re no Liz ‘Urley.’
And Freddie Flintoff, one of my most respected opponents, getting the Long Room boys at Lord’s roaring with his boisterous ‘Come on lads!’ walking downstairs and through the mob on the final morning when they knocked us over in ‘09.
Ken helps give everyone the best seat in the house, bringing us all closer to the action, with the emphasis on his smile-to-the-dial anecdotes. Like me he thinks cricket is the best game ever invented and I wish him well with his latest.’
