Those predicting the demise of Chris Rogers as Australia’s opening batsman for the first Test in Cardiff are wrong.
Rogers may be the oldest in the party, but in English conditions, he will be one of the first chosen… and at the head of the order ahead of Shaun Marsh.
Only injury stopped Rogers from opening in the West Indies. His near century, having been dropped early, in the lead-up game against Kent showed he is in good form and he remains pivotal in captain Michael Clarke’s plans to finally win the Ashes in England… after three misses in 2005, 2009 and 2013.
Marsh may still play, but it would be tough to drop Adam Voges after his century on debut at Warner Park two Tests back.
The other place in contention? The third fast bowler: Ryan Harris or Josh Hazlewood… on reputation it’s Harris, on form, Hazlewood. Who would I choose right now: Big Josh.
